EmDash + MCP: Two Setup Gotchas

The exact site URL behind a reverse proxy, and the surprisingly simple MCP OAuth ID prompt.

Two things got EmDash + MCP working for me today:

1. Reverse proxy URL: With a trusted certificate, set EMDASH_SITE_URL in /opt/emdash_data/.env to the exact address you use to reach the site. Then rebuild and restart:

cd /opt/emdash && set -a && . /opt/emdash_data/.env && set +a && pnpm build && systemctl restart emdash

2. MCP OAuth ID: The prompt looks like it wants an official value. In my setup, I entered an arbitrary ID and it worked. I wish that were stated plainly online.

After that, I created a post on techvic.net through MCP. Connection confirmed.
